Squire’s world beating padlock sets another first with LPCB’s highest level 5 certification

Security specialist Squire’s world beating Stronghold® SS100 padlock is now even tougher, and it’s set another first achieving the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) highest level SR5 certification.

Called Stronghold® SS100C LEV5, Squire’s new halo padlock features exceptional angle-grinder resistant material which sets it apart from any other padlock on the market.

Universally renowned as the world’s strongest padlock, Squire’s new upgraded SS100C LEV5 was tested to LPCB’s LPS 1654/SR5 certification, which tests the resistance to unauthorised access by physical security products.

To achieve SR5 (level 5), the lock withstood a series of 10-minute attack tests using angle grinder, lump hammer, sledgehammer, hooligan bar, steel wedges and punches, and cordless drill using carbide tipped drills.

Each test is timed, and the clock is stopped for any break in the attack, such as changing disc, changing tester or simply considering what further steps to take.

And, both Squire’s standard Stronghold® SS100C and SS100 achieved LPCB Level SR4, with 10-minute attack tests using fewer tools, the main difference being a less powerful angle grinder.

There are no other locks on the market at these levels.

Squire’s SS100C LEV5 was able to achieve LPCB SR5 because it uses special angle grinder resistant material within the lock body, shackle, module, cylinders and screws which combat attack at any potential vulnerable area.

LPCB works closely with insurers, government, police and manufacturers to ensure that LPCB approved products have been rigorously tested to evaluate resistance to deliberate attack and their ability to operate reliably.

This means specifiers, facilities managers and suppliers can be confident that Squire’s LPCB certified Stronghold® padlocks offer the ultimate levels of deterrence against physical intervention, burglary, vandalism, and terrorism.

The super-tough, super heavyweight SS100 padlock – known as the world’s strongest production padlock – was the first to achieve LPCB Level SR4, the highest level that any padlock achieved when tested on its own.

This outstanding British made heavy duty padlock – which is capable of a tensile pull of 24 tonnes – features a 4.3kg solid steel lock body and 20mm diameter hardened boron steel shackle.

Recommended for perimeter gates, warehouses, containers, lorries, high security doors and motorbikes, the patented Stronghold® design is an assurance of the most advanced product performance.

CEO John Squire said: “This important accreditation is another example of our ongoing commitment to best practice and ensuring our purpose designed products offer exceptional resistance against a sustained attack.”

Most insurers and specifiers look for the LPCB mark of approval when dealing with fire and security issues.  LPCB, and the products it approves, play an extremely important role in protecting people and property from criminals and terrorists.

Richard Flint, BRE (incorporating LPCB) technical and commercial lead-physical security, said: “Congratulations! We’re delighted to certify Squire in recognition of their padlocks’ fantastic performance to LPS 1654/Level 5 – a first that I wasn’t sure would ever be possible.”

Squire’s premium range Stronghold® security brand is celebrating 25 years this year.

It marks a quarter of a century of the very best in British made, heavy-duty, extra high security padlocks.

Stronghold® is universally recognised as Squire’s most trusted maximum-security brand, unrivalled in strength and durability, and a symbol of Squire’s 240-year heritage.

Introduced in 1998 by the Squire product development team, the first Stronghold® padlock was launched as a trailblazer for setting vital new European CEN standards in the security industry.

Since then, the Stronghold® range has evolved extensively to include ultra-high security padlocks, padbars, chains, and lock and chain sets for commercial use.

Many highlights of Stronghold® are the solid hardened steel lock body, electrophoretic anti-corrosion finish, hardened boron alloy steel shackle, anti-drill protection and high corrosion resistance for harsh environments.

That’s why today Squire’s Stronghold® range is approved to the highest global standards, not only by CEN and LPCB, but also by Sold Secure, and supported by Secured by Design.

The Squire name has been at the forefront of lock making since 1780, with a great British history carried down through eight generations.  Today, Squire manufactures some of the most advanced lock designs on the market for commercial, home and two-wheel security – cylinders, padlocks, combination locks, multi-purpose lock and chain sets, security cables, bolts, hasps and staples, and security accessories.
