Burg Wächter Gives Charity Year’s Supply of Bike Locks

A community bike project has received a year’s supply of bicycle locks from Burg-Wächter after being chosen for the brand’s ‘Secure Communities Scheme.’ The scheme awards local charities and community groups with needed security products free of charge.

New Forest Bike Project in New Milton previously received a monetary donation from Burg-Wächter back in 2020 and recently approached the company when they were in need of locks for the bicycles they refurbish for users in the local community.

Burg-Wächter awarded them with 500 of its Steel Cable Bicycle 260 locks that feature a lightweight and sturdy steel plastic-coated cable that comes in three colours, self-closing locking cylinder, and keys for opening.

The Bike Project is a social enterprise that takes unwanted and broken bicycles and then repairs and restores them before passing them on to people in the local community who are in need of one.

Bikes can be given away for free or subsidised for a donation to cover costs to keep the project running and so they reached out to Burg-Wächter who have helped them in the past, to see if they’d be willing to provide the group with enough bike locks that they can give one away with every bike they restore so the recipients have a way to keep their bikes secure.

The group also runs bike maintenance sessions for all ages and works with New Forest School and youth groups to run bike building courses for young people who then get to keep the bikes they build.

Louis Bonney, Project Director at New Forest Bike Project, said: “Burg-Wächter’s donation has meant that we are able to give away a bike lock with every bicycle that we refurbish for people in the New Forest area. We repair over 500 bikes a year and now every new bike owner can make sure it is safe and secure.

“We want to thank Burg-Wächter for choosing us again for the Secure Communities Scheme and helping the Bike Project to continue running for another year.”

Burg-Wächter’s Secure Communities Scheme gives regional charities and community groups the chance to win security products for their organization. Any regional initiative that is run by or supports the local community can apply.

Burg-Wächter launched the scheme in recognition of the fact that people around the country who are doing their bit for their community should not have to worry about the security of their premises, equipment, or storage areas.  The company’s Secure Communities Scheme is its way of saying thank you to community leaders for supporting people in their area.

The type of project or organisation that the scheme is open to is very wide-ranging. If the initiative is run by or supports the local community, and it has a specific security need, Burg-Wächter would like to hear about it. Successful applicants will each receive a tailored security kit to help secure property, premises, equipment, or storage areas.

The Secure Communities Scheme is an ongoing initiative, which has already helped over 100 regional causes through the provision of over 2,000 pieces of security equipment.
