Objectives: Certified Locksmiths & Security
With the goal of protecting consumers from the risks of an unregulated industry by recognising and promoting only trusted locksmiths who meet strict criteria. Mark Santi, Director of Certified Locksmiths & Security (CLS) commented “Our mission is to connect the public with the best locksmiths, safe engineers, and security specialists in the country through a platform that allows for quick and easy searches. Unfortunately, an unregulated industry allows some companies to take advantage of customers in vulnerable situations. Our network consists of competent, honest, and reliable professionals who uphold the highest standards of service.”
How to Become Certified
To become certified, new members must secure endorsements from at least two trusted industry professionals who can vouch for their skills and expertise. These endorsers will have their names displayed on the member’s profile, further enhancing credibility and fostering trust within the industry.
Certified Company membership is only available to local independent companies.
In addition, members must pass a rigorous vetting process, which includes:
- A minimum trading period to ensure expertise, skill, and experience.
- A valid DBS check and insurance.
- A commitment to non-destructive methods whenever possible.
- The correct installation of parts and components to maintain security.
- Only accepting work that they are qualified to undertake.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of building and fire regulations relevant to their tasks.
This thorough process ensures that only competent and ethical professionals become certified, providing customers with a trusted and reliable network.
Membership Tiers
Personal Membership (individual)
The Licensed Locksmith or Security Professional membership is available for £10 per month or £100 per year, providing a range of benefits designed to enhance credibility and professional development.
Members receive a digital licence stored in their smartphone wallet, along with an online profile showcasing their experience and qualifications.
They gain access to the exclusive Knowledge Zone, enjoy discounted fees on training and events, and become part of a growing national network of professionals. This membership signifies that the individual is endorsed by industry peers, DBS checked, committed to high standards and ethics, and recognised as a competent and professional locksmith.
Certified Company (Company Membership)
The Certified Company membership is available for £30 per month or £300 per year, offering a range of benefits designed to enhance the reputation and visibility of local independent locksmith and security companies.
In addition to the features available in the personal membership, companies receive one licensed locksmith membership, a website listing for public search, and the ability to use the CLS logo and brand.
Members also gain social media awareness, access to the online digital licence, and the Knowledge Zone, along with discounts on training and event fees. Membership provides connection to a growing national network. This membership is exclusively available to local independent companies, with franchises not eligible—though franchisees can join as personal members.

The Certified Locksmiths & Security promise
Certified Locksmiths and Security (CLS) is committed to promoting all member companies to the public in the most effective way possible. Any issues raised by the public or CLS members will be handled fairly and decisively, ensuring the reputation of CLS and its members remains protected.
To safeguard its members, CLS will thoroughly investigate any unfair claims or assertions made by customers or competitors and provide support where necessary.
Endorsement within CLS is a privilege that must be earned through industry recognition. CLS upholds rigorous due diligence in its verification process and offers unbiased support to all members.
CLS does not conduct, support, or promote training for new entrants into the locksmith industry, as its members have invested significant effort into building their businesses. Revenue from them will not be used to create additional competition.
Certified Company membership is exclusively available to local, independent businesses.

Lockfest 2025: Save the Date
Building on the success of last year’s event, where Certified Locksmiths and Security hosted a long weekend of locksmith training in aid of charity, they’re doing it again!
Save the date: 9th May 2025, YMCA Reading
Locksmith training meets bear grylls, the event will take place at the YMCA outdoor area, located off Ramptons Lane, Reading (RG7 4QT). Discover the essential but often overlooked skills of locksmithing, including safe manipulation and repair, car opening and decoding, and key casting. The training will be led by experienced locksmiths, safe engineers, tool and product suppliers, and qualified professionals.
