Window Ware shines a light on high-security door hardware this autumn

From TS007 certified to PAS 24: 2016 compliant, we’ve got quality hardware to fortify doors and satisfy standards.

As the leaves turn and the nights draw in fast, autumn is traditionally the time when homeowners think about battening down the hatches and fortifying their properties against burglars and bad weather.

For locksmiths, fabricators and contractors, however, security isn’t a seasonal concern but a year-round requirement. Anyone retrofitting an existing door must now ensure that the cylinder and handle they’re fitting always meet the 3-star TS007 certification. This standard was specifically developed to address the rising number of break-ins and aims to deliver maximum protection against five common forms of cylinder attack, including drilling, snapping, plug extraction, picking and bumping.

The standard relates to both the cylinder and protective door furniture. The goal is to meet the highest 3-star rating and this can be achieved by mixing and matching TS007 complaint hardware to add up to those magic 3 stars. For instance, you could combine a 1 star cylinder with a 2-star security door handle or simply use a standalone 3-star cylinder – job done! It’s easy to recognise security hardware as most products will display a 1-, 2- or 3-star rating and/or the TS007 Kitemark.

Door manufacturers are bound by comparable safety and security levels. Document Q of Building Regulations requires that complete door assemblies (including the door, frame and locks) in new build properties are rated to PAS24: 2016 and complete lock assemblies rated to BS and PAS 3621/8621/10621 and DHF/GGF TS007.

Window Ware stocks a range of security hardware from some of the biggest, most trusted brands to help locksmiths and fabricators meet the very latest requirements.

If you’re looking for a one-hit instant solution to meeting the TS007 3* standard, then Yale’s TS007 3* Platinum cylinder is just the job and won’t need any additional security furniture to meet certification.  The cylinder is TS007: 2014 3* and BSEN1303: 2005 approved and has been awarded the Kitemark. Its anti-snap design features a sacrificial front section which breaks off under attack to leave the rest of the cylinder intact and the door securely locked. Specialised side pins and unique multi shear-line technology provides resistance against bumping and lock picking, while hardened steel and a central bridge within the cylinder delivers superior strength and protection against attack.
