Electric Locks offer solution to City of London office building

Architectural Ironmonger G. Johns and Sons of London were involved with the specification for an access control system at the office block in the City of London, whereby the client wanted a flexible access control system with the minimum of ironmongery on the doors and did not require the use of surface mounted electro-magnetic locks. They required a modern office appearance with clean stylish lines, with a high level of security and the flexibility to offer office space to their clients.

Jeremy Barltrop of G. Johns chose to use the Securefast ASEL2460 Electric Escape Lock on the two doors on each landing of the five story building with Karcher Stainless Steel lever handles and connected via heavy duty conductor hinges to a reader on the outside of the doors. The client did not require overriding cylinders therefore the Securefast lock was chosen for its quality, easy of use and reliability. As the latch bolt is magnetic, it latches when the door is fully closed, which means  the closing pressure of the doors can be light to overcome the force usually required for a latch bolt spring. The lock also automatically throws the deadbolt when the door is fully closed increasing the security on the doors, but both bolts are fully withdrawn in one action on the inside by the lever handle for safe emergency egress. This enables the client to control entry to each floor via the lift or staircase with a proximity card, and allow safe egress via the lever handle fitted to the lock case.

The benefits of using the Securefast Electric lock also means that the locking and unlocking of the door is extremely quiet with minimum sound from throwing and withdrawing of the latch and deadbolt, making the product ideal for a quiet office.
